Hi, I'm Stephanie Polan

And I provide counseling to adolescents and young adults struggling with anxiety, stress, and life transitions in the Chicagoland area.

I help adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety related to school, relationships, work, or general life transitions such as going to or graduating from college to allow for healthier lifestyles and emotional stability. I provide a safe space for clients to explore anxiety and stress to provide for better management.

Helping Teens and Adults Overcome Anxiety

As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe, welcoming space for those struggling with depression or anxiety to be heard and understood. In this space clients will be allowed to open up, explore, and begin to understand the anxiety that is affecting their lives. Without this space to begin this exploration those struggling with anxiety or other stress may not feel that they are understood and will continue in the cycle of anxiety or depression.

I work with each client to create individualized treatment plans to meet each client where they are at. I believe in client centered therapy and tend to utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and motivational interviewing in session, but tailor the modality used to best help whichever client I am currently sitting with.

Most People Don’t Understand Anxiety

Many adolescents and young adults struggle with anxiety and stress. Today’s societal pressures appear much greater than in previous generations leaving those struggling to determine who they are with many questions creating increased anxiety. Often those struggling with anxiety have both mental symptoms such as increased worry and racing thoughts as well as physical symptoms such as heart racing, shortness of breath, difficulty sleeping, and panic attacks. Those struggling with anxiety or increased, unmanaged stress may isolate themselves due to poor coping skills to manage which can lead to depression.

A Little About My Professional Background

I received my Bachelor of Science in Family Social Services with a minor in Sociology from Northern Illinois University in 2011. I then went on to get my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Aurora University in 2013. I am licensed in the state of Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been working in the social work field since 2010 with experience working in both homeless and domestic violence shelters, as a medical social worker responding to psychosocial needs of patients and providing brief counseling and grief support, as well as working in psychiatric hospitals and emergency departments.
